چکیده

We have investigated the ionisation structure of the post-shock regions of magnetic cataclysmic variables using an analytic density and temperature structure model in which effects due to bremsstrahlung and cyclotron cooling are considered. We find that in the majority of the shock-heated region where Hand He-like lines of the heavy elements are emitted, the collisional-ionisation and corona-condition approximations are justified. We have calculated the line emissivity and ionisation profiles for Iron as a function of height within the post-shock flow. For low-mass white dwarfs, line emission takes place near the shock. For high-mass white dwarfs, most of the line emission takes place in regions well below the shock and hence it is less sensitive to the shock temperature. Thus, the line ratios are useful to determine the white-dwarf masses for the low-mass white dwarfs, but the method is less reliable when the white dwarfs are massive. Line spectra can, however, be used to map the hydrodynamic structure of the post-shock accretion flow.

Dissipative accretion flows around a rotating black hole

We study the dynamical structure of a cooling dominated rotating accretion flow around a spinning black hole. We show that non-linear phenomena such as shock waves can be studied in terms of only three flow parameters, namely, the specific energy (E), the specific angular momentum (λ) and the accretion rate (ṁ) of the flow. We present all possible accretion solutions. We find that a significant...

Time-dependent simulations of steady C-type shocks

Using a time-dependent multifluid, magnetohydrodynamic code, we calculated the structure of steady perpendicular and oblique C-type shocks in dusty plasmas. We included relevant processes to describe mass transfer between the different fluids, radiative cooling by emission lines and grain charging and studied the effect of singlesized and multiple sized grains on the shock structure. Our models...

Properties of Accretion Shocks in Viscous Flows with Cooling Effects

Low angular momentum accretion flows can have standing and oscillating shock waves. We study the region of the parameter space in which multiple sonic points occur in viscous flows in presence of various cooling effects such as bremsstrahlung and Comptonization. We also quantify the parameter space in which shocks are steady or oscillating. We find that cooling induces effects opposite to heati...

The Role of Thermal Conduction in Accretion Disks with Outflows

In this work we solve the set of hydrodynamical equations for accretion disks in the spherical coordinates (r,θ,ϕ) to obtain the explicit structure along θ direction. We study a two-dimensional advective accretion disc in the presence of thermal conduction. We find self-similar solutions for an axisymmetric, rotating, steady, viscous-resistive disk. We show that the global structure of an advec...

Analytical Solutions of Specific Classes of Astrophysical Radiating Shocks

Radiating shocks play a crucial role in astrophysical environments (Mignone 2005) as well as in laboratory plasmas generated by powerful facilities (Drake 2006). In astrophysics, we can find them in the head of stellar and galactic jets (Blondin & Cioffi 1989), in the first phase of supernovae explosions, in the late phase of supernova remnants (Chevalier & Blondin 1995), in accreting systems s...
